What Doesn't Belong?

I grew up watching Sesame Street. I can remember a segment of the show that had a little song about "what three things are the same and which one doesn't belong. . ." - Here is what prompted the flashback to this song as I walked around the office this morning:

Yes, my desk "just doesn't belong" among the clean desks in this office.

I've Been Flocked!

Ran home at lunch only to discover these interesting plastic birds perched along my driveway.

First thought: Who did my husband tick off now?

Second thought: What are Kim and Patrick up to now? (see this post to understand what they did to me in December)

Third thought: Is this what kids do these days instead of toilet-papering?

I was wrong on all three guesses.
There was a bright pink letter around one of the flamingo's necks that read:

YOU HAVE BEEN FLOCKED!

These flamingos have chosen to nest here to help raise money for the Newark High School After Prom Celebration!

For a small donation ($15) they will migrate to a different nesting spot. You may choose to protect yourself from any future invasion of these pink pests by purchasing "Pink Flamingo Insurance" for $5.

To have them fly to another residence please contact one of the following bird handlers: xxxxxxxxxxxx

Please feel free to designate the flock's next nesting place!

Please make checks payable to NHS After Prom. Thank you!!
I must admit, it is a pretty good way to raise some money.
Wonder where I will send them next????

The Invitation Has Been Issued

Received a call a few minutes ago from my husband who said you need to go to WNCI and listen to the new song about Newark. So I did. (I'll give you the link in a minute)

After listening to the song, I thought it was only appropriate for me to invite them over to our Groundhog Breakfast, where of course we eat groundhog for breakfast, as most rednecks do, don't you think?

So Dave and Jimmy - put your money where your mouth is and come on out to NEWARK and check us out for yourself!

Here is the link to the song:

If you can't load this song, just go to http://www.wnci.com/ and click on the new song called Newark.

3 Things That Will Bring a Snow Day

According to my children, if you do the following three things, school will be canceled the next day:

1. Put a spoon under your pillow

2. Put your pj's on inside out

3. And the final step is flushing the toilet at midnight

Step 1 and 2 are completed. Still too early to do step 3.
UPDATE: SCHOOL WAS CANCELED TODAY

Mystery Solved

I found a surprise under our tree this morning. Santa had been there and had left me a gift:

As I unwrapped the box, I found another wrapped box inside - several times. When I finally got to the last box, here is what I found:

The blob has been safely returned. Thanks for all the fun Kim and Patrick. Funny thing is that I never suspected Kim at all. I was blaming it all on the boys. Nice work.

Merry Christmas!

Monday Morning Mystery

I was first to arrive at the office this morning and found this note:

To give you a little background, an interesting item was kidnapped from me last week. Obviously someone is having some fun with it. I'm told that it will be returned. . .soon.

UPDATE: I just received an anonymous email which contained a picture of the item. At least it is still in one piece. I must say that whoever took that picture - you left behind a clue in the photo - a reflection maybe?

Food-Fighting Jailbirds

You can't even have a good food fight at school any longer. 25 middle schools students were handcuffed and taken to jail for their involvement in a school food fight. Sad.

Read about it here.

Found it on Twitter via Cooking Student.

The Book Tower

Upon looking at my nightstand, my husband remarks: "Are you trying to reach the ceiling?" referring to my stack of books on my nightstand, which now looked like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I flashed him my leave me alone look and decided that maybe I should take a few moments to go through the stack.

I decided to sort them into three piles: 1 - books I have read and need to put away; 2 - books I have started and never finished, but have every intention of finishing and 3 - books that if I had nothing but time to read, I would, but I don't, so they are going back to the bookshelf for the time being. Here are the results of the sort:
The books that I have recently finished

(the middle book is Gift Of The Sea)

The books that I WILL finish

Books that I would like to read, but . . .

As I was sorting the books, my 12 year-old comes into the room and looks at the new stack on the nightstand and says: "these are boring books. I wouldn't read them." Gotta love children.

The Front Fell Off

On August 19th 2007, an oil tanker off the coast of Australia split in two, dumping 20,000 tons of crude oil.
Senator Collins, a member of the Australian Parliament, went on TV to reassure the public that tankers were safe.
