A - Aim at the base of the fire
S - Squeeze the top handle all the way
S - Sweep from side to side

Thank you to C-TEC and Lt. Ashcraft for providing us with this training today.

Progress

I stopped by Heartbeats of Licking County this week and was given a tour of the new addition being constructed.

I am always amazed how construction projects progress through different stages.

Can't wait to see the completed building in a few months.

Thanks for the tour Rindy.

Did You Know. . .

. . . these things about the businesses in Licking County?

  • Licking County is an economic powerhouse. Licking County hosts Central Ohio's largest manufacturing corridor with 11 million s.f. of buildings, 1,000+ acres, rail/inter modal, manufacturing-oriented, capacity for growth, and four of Central Ohio's 25 largest industrial parks.
  • Licking County is a haven for the advanced materials industry in Ohio. In an area defined by I-70, SR 16, SR37 and SR79 is a diverse presence of the advanced materials industry with polymers, steel, aluminum, micro electronics, wood, ag/bio, organics, food, foam, silicon and other advanced processes.
  • Licking County is where many global products are born. Product development for next generation manufactured goods is found in abundance here. Owens Corning, Momentive Performance Materials, Bayer MaterialScience, Holophane, Boeing, Goodrich and Screen Machine are among the companies that are engineering and producing next generation products in facilities found in Licking County.
  • Many unique-to-the-world capabilities are found in Licking County's backyard. Kaiser aluminum's plant in Heath has the only hot roll aluminum process in the world. Boeing's AWACS-ESM anechoic chamber is one-of-a-kind. NATO tried to duplicate it once and couldn't. Samuel Manu-Tech has North America's only heat treat line that uses bizmuth to anneal steel instead of lead.
  • Licking County has defied the axiom that people won't relocate from the sun belt to the so-called rust belt. Boeing moved a workload from Dallas, TX. They have also attracted key leadership from California and Georgia.

For those who live and work here, this should make you stand taller. For those who don't - why don't you?

Thanks Rick.

Announcement from H & W Trucking

H & W Trucking, Inc., www.handwtrucking.com whose principal office is in Newark, Ohio, announced receipt of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) HUB Zone designation.

Companies meeting specific employment criteria may be designated as SBA HUB Zones, which assist the Federal government in ensuring federal contracting and employment opportunities in underutilized and underemployed regions.

H & W’s new SBA HUBZone designation means Federal program managers, contracting and transportation officers will have an easy avenue to allow H & W Trucking, Inc. to provide transportation services to the United States Department of Defense and other Federal agencies.

“As a small business, working with the Federal government can be challenging. Our new HUBZone designation helps position us on a more level playing field with the much larger companies that are also seeking to conduct business with the Department of Defense and other government agencies.” says Ms. Barcy Vidt, President of H & W Trucking, Inc.

H & W Trucking, Inc. has agents around the U.S.A. and they provide truckload, less than truckload, (LTL) and rail service to and from all points in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

"The Economy Is Recovering"

This was one of the first statements today of the mouth of Andrew B. Busch - Global Currency and Public Policy Strategist for BMO Capital Markets' Investment Banking Division in Chicago. I attended the 11th Annual Heartland Bank Economic Forum where Mr. Busch was the keynote. Some interesting take-aways for me were:
  • A study conducted by the Kauffman Foundation found that from 1980 to 2005, companies five years old or younger created over 95% off all new jobs in America.
  • If the federal government keeps spending at the current rate, we will see Trillion dollar deficits over the next ten years.
  • It is a strong possibility that the U.S. could lose its AAA rating by 2014 if current spending continues.
  • The Health Care Reform Plan recently passed does anything but encourage job growth. Why would a company at the 50 employee threshold want to hire and go above the 50, since they will now have to cover 100% of the health care coverage for every employee at $8,000 a head? And for those already above the 50, it would be cheaper to pay the $4,000 fine instead of the $8,000 coverage. It just doesn't make any sense.

He also discussed how to create job growth: Lower corporate taxes. He asked how we (U.S.) plans on beating the competition from China when their corporate tax is roughly 12% while ours is 40%. We are not on a fair playing field to start with.

A big thank you to Heartland Bank for the invitation today.

The Wait Is. . .Posted

Have you ever been in a situation where you have to decide whether to go to the ER or Urgent Care instead? I have. It would have been helpful to me if I knew how busy the ER was before I made my decision to go.

Well, now you can find out just by logging onto www.lmhealth.org. Posted on their home page is the wait time for the ER and for their Urgent Care Center in Pataskala.

What a novel idea. Good job Licking Memorial Health Systems.
